This week President Jacob Zuma confirmed Minister Naledi Pandor's appointment as Minister of Home Affairs.

Deputy Minister Derek Hanekom, who has been Deputy Minister of Science and Technology since 2004, has been appointed as South Africa's new Minister of Science and Technology.

Deputy Minister Hanekom has been actively involved in the promotion of South Africa's science, technology and innovation partnership with the European Union and has visited Brussels regularly over the years. Most recently he was a keynote speaker at DG RTD's Innovation in Healthcare Conference held in Brussels in April 2012.
