Germany and South Africa strengthen cooperation in science and technology

South Africa and Germany have undertaken initiatives to strengthen their cooperation in science and technology, providing the momentum for trend-setting projects. The two countries opened the German-South African Year of Science 2012/2013 in Cape Town, South Africa, today.

Bundesforschungsministerin Schavan in Südafrika und Namibia

Die Bundesforschungsministerin Annette Schavan wird am kommenden Sonntag, 15. April, nach Kapstadt, Südafrika, reisen. Dort eröffnet sie gemeinsam mit ihrer Amtskollegin Naledi Pandor, der südafrikanischen Ministerin für Wissenschaft und Technologie, das Deutsch-Südafrikanische Jahr der Wissenschaft 2012/2013.

Die Entscheidung zum Bau des Riesenteleskops "Square Kilometre Array (SKA)" ist nun gefallen: es wird auf zwei Kontinenten – Afrika und Australien – gebaut. BMin Prof. Dr. Schavan hatte erst kürzlich die deutsche Beteiligung am SKA im Rahmen ihrer Kapstadt-Reise angekündigt.
