Invasive species present a growing problem the world over: they threaten indigenous biodiversity, human and environmental health, and they often have significant adverse impacts on the economy. There is a direct and indirect link between invasive species and human actions as it is mostly people that are responsible for their introduction, propagation and spread. Unfortunately, to date, there is no coherent and clear international law instrument which regulates invasive species. There are however some domestic responses to regulating invasive species, such as in Germany and South Africa and these could be informative as they have the potential to infuse a more coherent international regime.
