Technological Innovations for a Low Carbon Society

The Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf), in collaboration with Leopoldina (the German Academy of Science), with support from the National Research Foundation (NRF) and Nedbank, invites you to a two-day collaborative workshop on Technological Innovations for a Low Carbon Society to be held from 8 – 9 October 2012, at the new green-star-rated regional office Nedbank Menlyn Maine, Pretoria, South Africa. The workshop is part of the German-South African Year of Science 2012/13, which was initiated by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the South African Department of Science and Technology (DST).

Fuel cell power systems for the South African Market

An opening workshop will be held on 10 October 2012 between 2.30 p.m. and 6.00 p.m. as part of the "f-cell" trade fair and conference event in Stuttgart with the directors of the three Competence Centres of HySA (Hydrogen South Africa), with the aim of paving the way for potential scientific and technical co-operation as well as preparing for the event in South Africa.

South African Automotive Week

The South African Automotive Week is an international trade show based in Africa’s manufacturing center – Port Elizabeth. It is Africa’s automotive intellectual gathering and focuses on stimulating trade and partnership opportunities in manufacturing and the related sector.

It is endorsed and hosted by the South African industry, including the National Association for Automotive Component and Allied Manufacturers (NAACAM), National Association of Automobile Assemblers of South Africa (NAAMSA), thedti (South African government) and other key stakeholders.

“Biowaste to Energy” – how waste can help improve the environmental balance

The South African province of Gauteng has set itself the aim of developing a sustainable energy profile for the region. The first step taken was to agree a comprehensive strategy for responding to climate change. A workshop on the topic of “Biowaste to Energy” was also held at the University of Johannesburg on 11 October. As part of this event, specialists discussed the possibilities of producing energy from biowaste.
