2012 WOMEN IN SCIENCE AWARDS

Due to low participation rates by women in research and scientific careers, there are often inadequate role models for aspiring young women and girls.  The Department of Science and Technology (DST) hosts the South African Women in Science Awards (WISA) annually to recognise and reward the achievements of leading South African women scientists and researchers. The awards are aimed at profiling women scientists and researchers as role models for younger scientists and researchers; encourage and reward younger women who are starting their careers as emerging researchers and scientists.

Mass Spectrometry in the Life Sciences

Lectures and Workshops on ESI/MALDI-Mass Spectrometry Applications in Health Science and Food Safety. A workshop on mass spectrometry in life sciences is organized by the University of Osnabrück, Department of Biology / Chemistry.
The modern mass spectrometry has evolved into an extremely powerful analytical method that is widely used in the life sciences. Here, the masses of molecules such as peptides, sugars, or lipids can be determined, and this with an accuracy that is well below the mass of a single hydrogen atom.
